Henry Cavill has clarified that he will not be starring in Fifty Shades Darker after starting a fan frenzy when he hinted he would be taking on the part of Jack Hyde in the sequel.

Henry Cavill In ‘Fifty Shades’

A casting rumor had been swirling that Cavill was been tapped to play Jack, Anastasia Steele’s publishing boss in Fifty Shades Darker. When Cavill was asked about the rumor at a press junket in London for The Man from U.N.C.L.E., he offered up a vague and leading response.

“Basically what I can say is I can’t say anything about it right now,” Cavill told E! News on camera.

Cavill let the rumors gain steam after his comment, but has finally cleared the air and admitted that he was merely having some fun.

“I’m not in Fifty Shades of Grey. I’m for real. I’m just messing with everyone,” he told USA Today.

“The first time around, everyone was asking, ‘Are you Christian Grey?’ I went ‘No!’ But no one cared and everyone kept talking about it,” Cavill explained. “This time around, everyone is now still convinced I’m part of the series. Now the question is, ‘Are you going to be in Fifty Shades Darker.’ And I thought, I’m going to try a different tact this time. See what they say. And so I tried a different tact.”

“I thought I’d give everyone a go and then tell everyone the truth a moment later. It’s not going to change,” Cavill added. “I’m going to do something like this again in the future and make a real social experience out of it.”

What Cavill can be seen in in the near future is The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and reprising the part of Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Justice League Part One and Justice League Part Two.
