Henrik Rummel, known as the U.S. Olympic rower who appeared to have an erection on the podium in London, won a bronze medal in the Men’s Four (M4-) at the 2013 World Rowing Championships.

The World Rowing Championships, which took place on the Tangeum Lake regatta course in South Korea, saw a number of former Ivy League students take home medals for the United States. Harvard grad Rummel, however, is likely the most notable after his showing at the 2012 Olympics.

Last August, Rummel stood on the podium with his U.S. rowing teammates Scott Gault, Charles Cole and Glenn Ochal with gold medals around their necks and flowers clutched in their hands. Although the four young men were all in uniform, Rummel stood out from the group due to a prominent bulge in his pants that many took to be an erection.

After the image of the awards ceremony went viral on Reddit and became a meme with the caption: “Wins medal in Olympics; Is on front page for his penis,” Rummel attempted to clear the air. “I swear it's not erect!" Rummel wrote on Twitter amidst the speculation. "I don't know why it ended up in that position but there you go."

“If I did have [an erection] you can bet I would've tried harder to cover it up with the flowers,” Rummel further explained to Gawker. “Those spandex are pretty tight fitting and whatever position it happens to be captured in, it's staying that way.”
