Meal-kit company HelloFresh has dropped their paid partnership with Lea Michele after actor Samantha Ware tweeted about Michele’s racist comments that occurred on the set of Glee.
HelloFresh tweeted, “HelloFresh stands in solidarity with those who are grieving, confused, hurt, and upset right now. Everyone has and will always be welcome at our table. We do not tolerate racism, discrimination, or violence of any kind, but most importantly, we stand in support of black communities, our employees, and our customers.”
The company then went on to add, “In this spirit, we’re making a donation to the Brooklyn NAACP and we invite anyone with the means to do the same. WE STAND TOGETHER.”
Michele has shared many sponsored posts for HelloFresh on her Instagram where she has 6.5 million followers. Most recently being from May 20 where she thanked HelloFresh for allowing her time spent in her house during the stay at home order to be more bearable.
HelloFresh took action after Ware answered to Michele’s tweet about George Floyd. Michele said, “George Floyd did not deserve this. This was not an isolated incident and it must end. #BlackLivesMatter ”
Ware’s response read, “LMAO REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE MY FIRST TELEVISON GIG A LIVING HELL?!?! CAUSE ILL NEVER FORGET. I BELIEVE YOU TOLD EVERYONE THAT IF TOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY YOU WOULD “SHIT IN MY WIG!” AMONGST OTHER TRAUMATIC MICROAGRESSIONS THAT MADE ME QUESTION A CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD…”
On June 3, Michele posted a statement in response to backlash she was receiving on her Instagram explaining how she has taken the time to reflect on her own actions and how they may have impacted others.
Michele starred in Glee for six seasons playing the lead character Rachel Berry. For her portrayal, she was nominated for two Golden Globe awards and one Emmy. Ware played Jane Hayward, a recurring character in season six and appeared in 11 episodes.
