Heidi Klum spoke emotionally about her 18-year-old daughter Leni Klum, who like many rising freshmen around the world is preparing to move to begin college classes. Leni will be living in New York, where her mother also began her modeling career years ago after moving there from Germany.

She spoke very highly of her daughter’s capabilities to ET Online saying the eldest Klum “has her head screwed on right,” even though saying goodbye to your first child going away to college is “obviously sad.”

Leni apparently knows New York pretty well because her mother’s show Project Runway filmed several seasons there “I always move my family to New York when we are still filming.”

Heidi must be feeling sad that she won’t be able to have her daughter with her wherever she goes but is clearly proud of her too.

While Leni and Heidi modeled together for Leni’s cover debut on Vogue Germany, Heidi said her daughter’s priority isn’t modeling right now.

“College is top of the list. It’s not modeling and she’s really excited for that next chapter in her life,” she said.

Leni is Heidi’s daughter with the Italian businessman Flavio Briatore. They were married from 1997 to 2002 and separated before Leni was born. It hasn’t been specified which college will be attending.

Heidi also has three children with ex-husband Seal, two sons Henry and Jonah and a young daughter Lola. Henry is around 16 years old, so college is going to be in the conversation for more of her family soon as well.
