Heidi Klum Dresses Up As E.T. For Halloween, Taking Tradition To The Next Level

Heidi Klum went all out for her Halloween costume as the beloved E.T. alien in drag.

Steven Spielberg’s classic 1982 movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has inspired Halloween costumes for decades, but this year Klum chose to one-up the alien’s appearance by paying homage to a specific scene. In a hat, wig and skirt, Klum evoked the image of E.T. playing dress up with Drew Barrymore’s character.

Klum’s husband, Tom Kaulitz, accompanied her as a replica E.T. without clothes.

With deeply intricate, highly realistic costumes, Klum and Kaulitz were unrecognizable as people, save for their eyes, which creepily poked out through the character’s neck.

Klum has long been known to be an avid fan of the spooky season, and her costumes annually demonstrate a tremendous amount of forethought. Previous outfits include a peacock, Fiona from Shrek and a worm. Along with the celebrity-laden party she has thrown annually for the last two decades, on October 31, Klum continued her tradition of teasing her costume to fans throughout the day. Supposedly one year in the making, Klum’s team also revealed that in order to wear the outfit, Klum needed to have her long fingernails removed, and it is her “least comfortable” costume yet.

In a livestream to her followers during the day, Klum explained, “These are moving sculptures. We have to make sure everything is functioning. It’s a living piece of art. It’s performance art.”

She continued, “All my friends are coming from all over the planet, literally somebody from Germany, from Italy, from L.A., like from all over the place…It’s always exciting for me to see everyone else’s costumes. That’s what I love. You know, I love to see the creativity we all inspire [in] each other. That’s the fun thing about it.”

As Halloween is widely known to be one of the more scantily clad holidays, those who go all out for their costumes provide a breath of fresh air.

Singer Janelle Monáe also dressed up as E.T., serving as an even better depiction of the beloved alien.
