Supermodel Heidi Klum shut down the internet users who were criticizing her holiday ad campaign with her daughter.
Klum and her daughter Leni, 20, recently posed for an ad for the Italian lingerie brand Intimissi. The ad shows Klum and Leni taking pictures of one another with a vintage camera, dressed in red silk lace pajamas and black lace bras.
Posting the ad on Instagram, Klum captioned the post, “New @intimissimiofficial with me and my daughter @leniklum just in time for the holiday season.”
The post quickly garnered a plethora of comments, labeling the campaign inappropriate and uncomfortable. Many shared the sentiments of one user who remarked, “Which normal mom would pose together with her daughter in lingerie?”
Another wrote, “Dude, that’s your mom.”
However, others fought back on behalf of the ad, with one person writing, “She’s 20, not 14. I don’t see the problem. It’s tasteful and rather nice.”
Klum ultimately disabled the comments on the post. She and Leni have been subjected to rude comments regarding their partnership with Intimissi for the last two years.
Other internet users have fought back against comments shaming the mother-daughter pair and argued that the shoot isn’t a big deal, as Leni is a consenting adult.
Furthermore, some people spoke up in favor of the ad, describing it as “a cheeky – and sweet – reminder of growing up and learning about womanhood alongside our own mothers.” One person felt compelled to reminisce about picking out their first bra with their mother and the special bond such milestone experiences established. Many pointed out that the ad was not sexual in any way and that the public’s criticism of the shoot as inappropriate is indicative of the perception that women’s underwear is inherently intended to be sexy for others’ enjoyment.
