HBO has canceled production on Jon Stewart‘s animated digital series.
Stewart joined HBO in 2015 after 16 successful years as the host of The Daily Show. His animated project has been canceled due to “technical issues.” Stewart hoped to produce “timely” short-form videos that focused on current news and events.
“HBO and Jon Stewart have decided not to proceed with a short form digital animated project. We all thought the project had great potential, but there were technical issues in terms of production and distribution that proved too difficult given the quick turnaround and topical nature of the material,” the pay channel said in a statement. “We’re excited to report that we have some future projects together, which you will be hearing about in the near future.”
Stewart has mainly stayed out of the public eye since leaving The Daily Show, except for a few select appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me,” Stewart said at the time of announcement. “I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.”
