Hayden Panettiere Seeking Further Help With Ongoing Postpartum Depression

Hayden Panettiere revealed Thursday that she will be receiving further treatment for postpartum depression.

Hayden Panettiere’s Postpartum Depression

Panettiere, 26, announced on Twitter that she is returning to a rehabilitation facility in an effort to fight the depression she began experiencing following the birth of her daughter Kaya with husband Wladimir Klitschko.

“The postpartum depression I have been experiencing has impacted every aspect of my life,” Panettiere wrote on Twitter. “Rather than stay stuck due to unhealthy coping mechanisms I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my health and life. Wish me luck!”

Panettiere first opened up about her struggle with postpartum depression in September 2015 on Live! With Kelly & Michael while talking about her Nashville character Juliette Barnes, who was dealing with it as well.

“I can very much relate. It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you are told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child; I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do,” Panettiere said on Live! with Kelly and Michael. “But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”

“There’s a lot of misunderstanding. There’s a lot of people out there that think that it’s not real, that it’s not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their minds, that ‘Oh, it’s hormones,’ ” Panettiere added. “They brush it off. It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable. It’s really painful and it’s really scary and women need a lot of support.”

In October of last year, Panettiere checked into a treatment facility to help her deal with postpartum depression. At the time, a spokesperson for Panettiere revealed that she had opted to receive professional help. “Hayden Panettiere is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression,” read the statement obtained by Us Weekly. “She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.”
