Hasan Minhaj, who gained popularity as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, will host his own talk show on Netflix.

HASAN MINHAJ TO HOST NETFLIX TALK SHOW

The comedian’s as-of-yet-unnamed series has been picked up for a minimum of 32 episodes, and he becomes the first Indian-American host of a weekly comedy talk show. According to a statement by Netflix, Minhaj will “explore the modern cultural and political landscape with depth and sincerity” and “bring his unique comedic voice and storytelling skill to investigate the larger trends shaping our fragmented world.”

“If you don’t know Hasan Minhaj yet, you’re about to,” tweeted out the official Netflix account. “His new Netflix talk show is gonna tell the truth in the most hilarious way possible.” The tweet also included a clip from his special, Homecoming King, also available on the streaming service.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Netflix family as the country braces for another election season,” Minhaj joked in a statement. “And like you, I cannot wait to find out who Putin picks this time.”

“I’ve been a big fan of Hasan’s for many years. He’s a phenomenal writer with a distinct point of view,” added Bela Bajaria, the Vice President of Content for Netflix. “He is a brilliant performer, who is hilarious both on stage and off, and more importantly he isn’t afraid to share his thoughtful voice and unique perspective. We are so excited to bring his new talk series to Netflix members around the world.”

Minhaj has become one of the most heavily featured correspondents on The Daily Show, and his profile grew when he hosted the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. This news comes just two weeks after other Daily Show personality Michelle Wolf signed a similar Netflix deal to host her own series.

Minhaj will officially leave his current position in July and his Netflix show is expected to debut later in the year.
