NEW YORK, NY - DECEMBER 11: Movie producer Harvey Weinstein departs from criminal court after a bail hearing on December 11, 2019 in New York City. Weinstein was in court for a ruling on whether he will remain free on bail or if his bail will be raised to $5 million before his trial starts January 6.
Adrien Brody used his Oscars acceptance speech to share a heartfelt tribute to his partner, Georgina Chapman, and her two children, whom she shares with disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
The Brutalist star, 51, took home his second Best Actor trophy at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday, marking a major career milestone. However, it was his touching remarks about Chapman’s children, India, 15, and Dashiell, 13, that caught viewers’ attention.
“I share this with my amazing partner, Georgina, who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth but my sense of value and my values,” Brody said, growing emotional.
He then addressed India and Dashiell, referring to them as “our children” and thanking them for welcoming him into their lives.
“And our beautiful children, Dash and India. I know this is — it’s been a roller coaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life. And Popsie is coming home a winner,” he said, raising his Oscar, which earned warm applause from the audience.
Brody was criticized for throwing his gum at Chapman as he went to give his speech at the Oscars.
Brody and Chapman, 48, have been together since 2019, marking her first public relationship since her high-profile split from Weinstein. The Marchesa co-founder filed for divorce in 2017 after the bombshell New York Times exposé revealed Weinstein’s decades of sexual abuse in Hollywood. Their divorce was finalized in 2021.
Chapman has largely remained out of the public eye, but Brody has frequently praised her resilience. After winning the Golden Globe for The Brutalist in January, he thanked Chapman for being an “amazing partner” and credited her for his renewed career momentum.
“To my beautiful and amazing partner Georgina, your generosity of spirit, your own resilience, your immense creativity are a daily reminder of how to be,” he said at the time. “I would not be standing here before you if it wasn’t for you.”
Brody’s Brutalist performance has been a standout this awards season, helping the film secure 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Brady Corbet), and multiple acting nods.
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, delivered an unpredictable night. Anora swept the major categories, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Mikey Madison and Best Director for Sean Baker.
In a statement, Weinstein’s rep responded to Brody’s shoutout to his kids: “Harvey is happy for Georgina and grateful that his kids are being loved and cared for as they deserve to be.”
