Pop star Harry Styles showed off a “Beto for Texas” sticker in support of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke for all his fans to see while performing at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. O’Rourke, who is running against Gov. Greg Abbott to try and unseat him as governor of the heavily-red state, got a warm reception at the show as well.
Fans cheered as Styles pointed at the sticker on his guitar, which was briefly focused on by venue cameras. The feed then managed to find O’Rourke in the crowd, cutting to him grinning to even more cheers from fans. Styles also referred to Beto as “a lovely, lovely man” during the show.
Styles also used part of the proceeds of this national tour as a donation to Everytown for Gun Safety in the wake of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The combined donation between Styles and a matched donation by Live Nation was reportedly over $1 million.
Abbott and O’Rourke had a heated gubernatorial debate this past Friday. Texas is a central area for issues that have become key this election season, including gun control, abortion rights and immigration.
