Harry Styles and the other remaining members of One Direction – Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson – performed in Cape Town, South Africa Wednesday.
The On the Road Again tour marks the first time that One Direction has made stops in South Africa. Up on stage at the Cape Town Stadium, Styles, 21, called down to the adoring fans, “I’m so in love with Cape Town.” Payne echoed Styles’ sentiments and noted his amazements with the animals in the country.
“You’ve got some really scary animals here. It’s amazing,” Payne said from the stage.
One Direction has been carrying on its world tour following the news that Zayn Malik has decided to quit the band. A new report suggests that Styles tried in vain to keep Malik onboard in a tear-filled 2 a.m. phone call the day before the announcement made headlines.
“They were both in floods of tears,” a band insider told Reveal magazine. “Harry was hoping to talk round and get him back on the tour. He had no idea he was going to drop the bombshell and say he was leaving.”
The insider added, “Zayn said, ‘It’s my life with Perrie [Edwards] or my life with the band. I can’t do both. I can’t go on.'”
Now a four-man group, One Direction will continue on its tour, hitting Dubai for their next show on April 4. After a month off, One Direction will pick up the European leg of the tour before heading to North America in September, followed by a return to Europe later that month.
