Princesses with magical hair, Viagra salesmen and Cher herself could not stop Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One from ruling the box office this Thanksgiving weekend with $50.3 million, bringing its total to $220.4 million in America.
But Disney's animated Rapunzel retelling Tangled, starring the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, came close with $49.1 million. Family-friendly superhero flick Megamind rounded out the top three with $12.8 million for the weekend, in what was the second biggest Thanksgiving box office of all time. It was beat out by last year's New Moon/The Blind Side showdown.
The sure to be a camp classic, Las Vegas-set drama Burlesque, starring Cher and Christina Aguilera, took in $11.8 for the weekend, good enough to land it in the top five. Love and Other Drugs, the tale of a pharmaceutical representative and the Parkinson's-struck free spirit who loves him, played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway respectively, made only $9.8 million, despite incessant publicity advertising the abundant nudity in the film. –AMY LEE
