The Federal Aviation Administration has decided to allow Harrison Ford to retain his piloting license without restriction following the landing incident in February.
Ford mistakenly landed his one-engine private jet onto a taxiway instead of the designated runway, narrowly missing an American Airlines passenger jet. “Was that airliner meant to be beneath me?” Ford can be heard asking the air traffic controller. No person or plane was injured due to the error.
“The FAA conducted a full investigation into the matter, including an interview with Mr. Ford, and determined that no administrative or enforcement action was warranted,” reports Ford’s lawyer, Stephen Hofer. Thus the actor will retain his “pilot’s certificate without restriction.” While Ford incurred no penalty, he will voluntarily undergo “airman counseling,” Hofer says.
Clearly Ford was shaken by the mishap, despite the FAA findings. “I’m the schmuck who landed on the taxiway,” he said to the air traffic controller. When told, “It’s no big deal,” the actor responded, “It’s a big deal to me.”
