Harrison Ford was airlifted to a local hospital after injuring his ankle on set of Star Wars: Episode VII on Thursday.
Ford's injury was caused when he was struck by the door of the Millennium Falcon, a source told The Hollywood Reporter. The Millennium Falcon is the spacecraft that his character, Han Solo, piloted in the original films in the Star Wars franchise. Leaked set photos show the legendary vehicle, though director JJ Abrams tried to convince fans it wouldn’t be featured in Episode VII on Twitter.
The filming of Episode VII has been taking place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Though the Millennium Falcon was to blame according to the THR source, a hydraulic garage door was the cause of the injury, according to the Daily Mail. “We were called to Pinewood studios at 5.05pm after reports of a 71-year-old man being injured by a garage door,” a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police told the Mail.
Disney acknowledged that Ford had been injured on set in a statement, and maintained that production would continue as planned.
"Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII,” Disney’s statement read. “He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates," said a statement from Disney.
In addition to Harrison, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will be reprising their roles from the original movies – Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, respectively.
