A fourth season for Hannibal remains in question, as both Netflix and Amazon have passed on picking it up from NBC.
Showrunner Bryan Fuller took to Twitter Monday to respond to a Hannibal fan who was wondering whether or not the show had found a new home.
“I’m sorry to report Amazon and Netflix have passed on Hannibal S4,” Fuller told the fan. However, Fuller is still leaving room for hope, adding, “But we’re still investigating possibilities.”
It was announced last month that NBC had decided to cancel the re-imagining of Thomas Harris’ bestselling novels. The prequel, currently in its third season, will be allowed to conclude the current 13-episode season.
“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancelation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers,” Fuller said in a statement at the time. “[NBC Entertainment exec] Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure. Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

Though many predicted that the cancelation was brought on by the show’s unimpressive ratings, the main reason had to do with Fuller’s desire to introduce character Clarice Starling, who was played by Jodie Foster in the films. The rights to the character, however, remain unavailable, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
