Phillip Phillips announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Hannah Grace Blackwell on Friday, pushing Blackwell into the spotlight.

Phillip Phillips Met Hannah Blackwell At 18

Phillips, who won American Idol in 2012, met Blackwell six years ago, before winning season 11 of the singing competition. Blackwell, now 22, met Phillips, now 24, volunteering at a women and children’s center. Phillips was 18 at the time, and the singer revealed that the pair had been together for nearly three and a half years before his AI win.

“She is so excited for me. She supported me throughout all of this, and I love her to death,” Phillips told People after his win. Blackwell even makes an appearance in Phillips’ debut music video for his smash hit, “Home.”

Who Is Hannah Blackwell?

Blackwell was reportedly a nursing student in 2012, and, according to her Twitter account, is still a student. Blackwell frequently tweets about her life on tour with Phillips and her statistics homework.

In the fall of 2013, Blackwell tweeted that she was attending the University of Alabama and has since revealed that she is finishing up her studies online.
