Jean Smart took to Instagram to reveal that she has had a “successful” heart procedure.

The 71-year-old actress thanked her family and friends for supporting her and encouraged fans to speak to doctors in an Instagram post informing her followers of the heart procedure.

“February is American Heart Month — a time when the nation spotlights heart health, so it feels important to share with all of you that I am recovering from a recent, successful heart procedure. I am fortunate to have excellent professional care and support from family and friends while I continue to recuperate. Please listen to your body and talk to your doctor – I’m very glad I did!” she wrote in the post.

As the acclaimed actress recovers, production for the third season of her hit show Hacks has come to a pause, which will most likely delay their original premiere date for later this year.

In a joint statement, HBO Max and Universal Television wrote, “We are so happy that our beloved Jean Smart’s heart procedure was successful and she’s on the mend. HBO Max and UTV send their well wishes.”

Smart won her second SAG award for her role as Deborah Vance on the hit show on Sunday night. While she had to miss the award ceremony for health reasons, her co-star Christopher McDonald accepted the award on her behalf, reading the acceptance speech she had prepared which thanked her co-stars, “You all rock.”

Smart has won other awards for Hacks, including a Golden Globe and the Lead Actress in a Comedy Emmy in 2021 and 2022. However, due to the delayed release date for season 3, they are likely to miss the May 31 eligibility deadline for this year’s Emmys.
