On Thursday, a jury ruled in favor of Gwyneth Paltrow, concluding that the actor was not at fault in a 2016 ski collision with Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist. They also determined that Sanderson caused the crash by running into Paltrow.
Sanderson sued Paltrow for $300,000, alleging she ran into his back in 2016, leaving him with four broken ribs, a concussion and long-term brain damage that adversely affected his daily life.

Paltrow countersued for $1 in addition to her legal fees, maintaining that she did not ski into Sanderson.
She testified that she initially thought she was being assaulted when Sanderson approached her and placed his skis between hers.
Sanderson’s witness, Craig Ramon, recounted that he heard a scream and then saw Paltrow collide with Sanderson from behind. He then told the court that Paltrow left without checking to see if Sanderson was alright.
Paltrow argued that Ramon’s version of events was fallible. “He said he was 40 feet away and colorblind,” Paltrow stated. “I don’t know how he can be positive about what he saw, especially with how much he changed his story.”
She also challenged the allegation that she left Sanderson before asking if he was fine, saying that her ski instructor managed the incident and reported that Sanderson ran into Paltrow.
After the verdict, Paltrow appeared to tell Sanderson something. Sanderson told reporters that she said, “I wish you well” and that he responded, “Thank you, dear.”
He then expressed that he was “disappointed” by the ruling and said that, “You get some assumed credibility from being a famous person.”
