Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin have announced their decision to separate.
Paltrow, 41, and Martin, 37, went public with the split in a joint statement on the actress’ Goop website Tuesday.
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” the statement read. ”We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”
“We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been,” the couple continued. “We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”
For months, there’s been widespread speculation about the state of the power couple’s marriage. According to an insider, the marriage has been on the outs for years. “This [separation] news should surprise no one,” a source told The New York Daily News. “They haven’t been a couple for a number of years and have been pretending for the sake of the kids and each other’s careers.”
The two last appeared together at a Coldplay performance at Sony Studios last Saturday, where Paltrow appeared to keep her distance from her musician husband. Something seemed “amiss” an eyewitness told Fox News. Paltrow apparently looked tired and stressed while she sat though Martin’s new songs off his new album Ghost Stories, which might hit a bit close to home.
Tracks on Ghost Stories stories include “Always in My Head,” “True Love,” “Magic” (about not getting over someone), and “Another’s Arms,” which could be a reference to Paltrow’s rumored affairs.
Over the course of the last year, Paltrow has been accused of cheating on Martin with two wealthy, slightly older men – entertainment lawyer Kevin Yorn and billionaire Jeff Soffer.
Paltrow and Martin were married in 2003, a year after meeting at a Coldplay concert. They have two children together – Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.
