Gwyneth Paltrow & Angelina Jolie Allege Sexual Harassment By Harvey Weinstein

Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are the latest stars to come forward that they were sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN NEWS: GWYNETH PALTROW, ANGELINA JOLIE COME FORWARD

When Paltrow was 22, she was hired for the lead in the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, which Weinstein was producing. Before it began filming, the producer summoned the actress to his hotel room and touched her, suggesting the pair go to the bedroom for massages. “I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified,” Paltrow recalls of the incident. She refused and told her then-boyfriend Brad Pitt, but told him to keep quiet. “I thought he was going to fire me,” she said. Pitt has since confirmed the account when asked by The New York Times.

Angelina Jolie also wrote that she had a similar run-in with Weinstein in the late 1990s during the release of Playing By Heart. “I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did,” Jolie said. “This behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable.”

Paltrow and Jolie join the now dozens of women who have come forward admitting that Weinstein in some way harassed them. Three women brought rape allegations in a New Yorker piece this week. The New York Times detailed decades of sexual assault and harassment by Weinstein in an exposé, including that the producer settled out of court cases with at least eight women in the past thirty years.

Paltrow continued to say that the meeting at the hotel appeared to be a legitimate business meeting. It was written in her schedule from her agent – “it’s on the fax, it’s from CAA,” she said. “He screamed at me for a long time” when he found out that the actress had told a few close friends and family members about the incident at the hotel. “It was brutal. I was expected to keep the secret,” she said.

On Tuesday, Weinstein’s spokesperson Sallie Hofmeister released a statement on the mogul’s behalf: “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. He will not be available for further comments, as he is taking the time to focus on his family, on getting counseling and rebuilding his life.”

Paltrow added in her interview, “We’re at a point in time when women need to send a clear message that this is over. This way of treating women ends now.”
