Guns N’ Roses was headed into Canada over the weekend, but was detained at the border when it was discovered that there was a gun on board the tour bus.
Axl Rose, the Guns N’ Roses frontman, took to the stage in front of the sold-out crowd at Toronto’s Rogers Centre Saturday evening and revealed that he had some trouble getting into Canada. Before launching into “Out Ta Get Me,” Rose explained to the crowd of 50,000 about crossing the border. “We weren’t exactly arrested, we were detained,” he said, referring to the gun incident.
Rose was quick to note that while the customs officers did detain him and his fellow bandmates and crew, they weren’t necessarily out to get them. “They were very nice,” the singer said. “They were very understanding. You know, it happens — you can forget you had a f–king gun”
A Guns N’ Roses rep confirmed to Billboard: “Yes, this indeed happened on Friday, July 15, as they were crossing the border coming from the Philadelphia tour stop on the 14th.” The rep added that the gun did’t belong to a band member.
Guns N’ Roses’ Not In This Lifetime tour will wrap up in San Diego in August. The band is considering a U.K. tour in the near future.
