“He began to yell out anti-Trump, President Trump rhetoric,” Juan J. Perez, director of Miami-Dade police department said during a briefing. “He began to fire into the roof and chandeliers of the hotel. He waited for our police officers in the front lobby, to engage them.”

The shooter is being treated at Kendall Regional Medical Center after being shot in the legs by four police officers, three from Doral and one from Miami. One officer also suffered a broken wrist, authorities said.

“It appears he was trying to engage our police officers [in] some type of ambush-type of attack, trying to lure our police officers … into this gunfight,” Perez told reporters. “He did succeed, and he did lose, and that’s the bottom line.”
