A gunman yelling about President Donald Trump opened fire early Friday morning in the lobby of Trump National Doral resort in Doral, Florida. in efforts to lure officers in an “ambush” attack.

According to the officials, the gunman was identified as Jonathan Oddi, 42, a resident of Doral, and began shooting in the lobby of the hotel in efforts to attract the police. The shooting allegedly began after the suspect took down a flag from the flagpole, spread it over the counter in the lobby and pulled a fire alarm.

“He began to yell out anti-Trump, President Trump rhetoric,” Juan J. Perez, director of Miami-Dade police department said during a briefing. “He began to fire into the roof and chandeliers of the hotel. He waited for our police officers in the front lobby, to engage them.”

The shooter is being treated at Kendall Regional Medical Center after being shot in the legs by four police officers, three from Doral and one from Miami. One officer also suffered a broken wrist, authorities said.

“It appears he was trying to engage our police officers [in] some type of ambush-type of attack, trying to lure our police officers … into this gunfight,” Perez told reporters. “He did succeed, and he did lose, and that’s the bottom line.”

Oddi appeared to have traffic violations but no other criminal history can be found, presently according to court records. Perez said officers are still investigating how the shooter was able to access the resort and that investigation is in its early stages.

The Trump Organization bought the property, previously known as the Doral Resort & Spa, in 2012, it’s an 800-acre resort with 643 total guest rooms and four golf courses. In an earlier news briefing, Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez said that there was no need to evacuate the hotel because the situation was quickly dealt with and lasted less than two minutes.

Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez said he was grateful that no workers or guests at the hotel were injured. No individuals were injured in the incident, the president’s son, Eric Trump, also thanked police in a tweet.
