Grimes Reveals Second Baby With Elon Musk After Reporter Hears Crying Upstairs

The singer and producer Grimes unintentionally revealed the birth of her second child with off-and-on partner Elon Musk yesterday when a reporter heard the baby screaming and crying during an interview at her home.

Grimes was speaking with Vanity Fair about her upcoming album Book 1 when the article’s writer David Gordon reported hearing “multiple cries” from upstairs that were, “unmistakable. I’ve got two kids. That’s a baby.” After an awkward silence, Gordon says they both broke down laughing, and Grimes admitted, “I don’t know what I was thinking,” when asked why she’d do an interview with her secret child in the house.

The baby is a girl and was born in December 2021 via a surrogate. The girl’s full name is Exa Dark Sidræl, but she has the nickname Y. She said she had considered the name “Odysseus” for her daughter as well because “A girl named Odysseus is my dream,” and it’s truly hard to tell which of these two names would cause the child to be bullied more in school.

She also discussed her relationship status with the Tesla CEO. “There’s no real word for it. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid,” she said. “We just have our own thing going on and I don’t expect other people to understand it.” While they announced a “semi-separation” last year, Grimes seemed to indicate it was the right choice when she noted “this is the best it’s ever been,” in regards to their relationship.
