‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Writer Elisabeth Finch Admits She “Never Had Any Form Of Cancer”

Former Grey’s Anatomy writer and producer Elisabeth Finch confessed that she lied to her coworkers about having cancer.

“What I did was wrong,” Finch acknowledged. “Not okay. F—ed up. All the words.”

According to The Ankler, Finch shaved her head and used a dummy catheter to trick those around her into believing her “diagnosis.”

She told the publication in an interview that her inventive lies began back in 2007. At the time, she hurt her knee during a hike and had to get knee replacement surgery.

When her coworkers showed Finch their support, she evidently enjoyed it a bit too much.

“It was one hell of a recovery period and then it was dead quiet because everyone naturally was like ‘Yay! You’re healed.’ But it was dead quiet,” she recalled. “And I had no support and went back to my old maladaptive coping mechanism — I lied and made something up because I needed support and attention and that’s the way I went after it.”

Finch pinpointed, “That’s where that lie started — in that silence.”

“I know it’s absolutely wrong what I did,” she clarified. “I lied and there’s no excuse for it. But there’s context for it.

She elaborated, “The best way I can explain it is when you experience a level of trauma a lot of people adopt a maladaptive coping mechanism. Some people drink to hide or forget things. Drug addicts try to alter their reality. Some people cut. I lied. That was my coping and my way to feel safe and seen and heard.”

Another colossal lie she told her coworkers was that her brother died by suicide. In fact, he is currently alive and well.

Finch also falsely claimed to her peers that she lost a kidney and experienced sexual abuse by a Vampire Diaries male director.

The former television writer resigned in March and after the truth surfaced, her wife left her, and family members have disowned her. She is also not permitted to see her children.

She reflected, “I really miss it. I miss my fellow writers. It’s like a family and… one of the things that makes it so hard is that they did rally around a false narrative that I gave.”
