Grey’s Anatomy revealed in next week’s episode promo that Dr. Lexie Grey, played by Chyler Leigh, would be making a guest appearance on Meredith’s dream beach.
In the promo clip, Meredith is shown still hooked up to a ventilator as she battles COVID-19, before the shot cuts to her on her dream beach. She is handed a towel and the camera reveals Meredith’s late half-sister Lexie beside her. The song “Breathe (2 AM)” is playing in the background, hinting at the song Leigh sang during season 7’s musical episode.
Lexie is the latest character to rise from the dead and appear on Meredith’s beach. Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, and George O’Malley, played by T.R. Knight, both appeared in Meredith’s dream sequence.
The series also announced that Dr. April Kepner, played by Sarah Drew, would be making an appearance on the show, but she will reappear in the living world.
“We all have hopes, but we don’t have anything new to report yet,” Krista Vernoff, showrunner of Grey’s previously told Variety of whether viewers could expect future cameos.
Leigh started on Grey’s Anatomy at the end of the third season as an intern and stayed until the season eight finale, when her character tragically died in a plane crash.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays (9 p.m. ET) on ABC.
