‘Gremlins 3’ Is Happening And Zach Galligan Promises It Won’t Be A Remake
Any Gremlins fans fearing the beloved cult series was due to be rebooted and remade like so many classics before it can rest assured, actor Zach Galligan, star of the original films, has revealed that Gremlins 3 is definitely happening and will be a genuine sequel.
‘Gremlins 3’ Is Happening
Speaking at a Q&A at London’s Prince Charles Cinema for the venue’s seasonal screenings of the first Gremlins film, Galligan revealed some interesting tidbits on what we can expect from the long-awaited sequel.
He revealed writer of the original films, Chris Columbus had initially looked to J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek for inspiration for the third Gremlins film and considered scripting a reboot. He changed his mind, however, following the success of Jurassic World. Jurassic World grossed over $1 billion at the box office and served as a kind of reboot/sequel hybrid.
“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape or form,” Galligan said. “Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade.” The filmmakers instead plan to do “something along the lines of Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.”
Galligan, who played hero Billy Peltzer in the 1980’s films, also implied original cast members would return but was reluctant to confirm his own involvement.
A release date for Gremlins 3 has yet to be confirmed.
