Greg Plitt, the star of Bravo’s Work Out, died Saturday after he was struck by a train in Burbank, Calif. He was 37.
Plitt was pronounced dead at around 4:05 p.m. local time after he was struck by a Metrolink Train, reported USA Today. It is believed that he was using the tracks as the setting for a new workout video. He was accompanied by two other men who were filming him. Suicide has been ruled out as a cause of death.
“On Saturday, January 17, at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon, we received a call saying that a male had been struck by a Metrolink Train in Burbank, California. Once police and paramedics arrived on the scene, the man was identified as George Gregory Plitt. Mr. Plitt was pronounced dead at the scene,” Sgt. Chris Canales of the Burbank Police Department told Access Hollywood.
Sgt. Canales added, “We can say that this definitely was not a suicide. There was some sort of filming happening at the time of the incident, but where not sure exactly what was being filmed.”
The Metrolink Train conductor apparently saw Plitt as he was approaching and blared the train’s horn to warn him. However, Plitt failed to get out of the way in time. Investigators looking into the tragic death will look over security footage, as well as the footage from a camera Plitt was using to film.
“According to several eyewitnesses, the conductor did see Mr. Plitt standing on the tracks, and sounded the train’s whistle several times prior to impact. Unfortunately, he did not move out of the way of the train,” Sgt. Canales said. “There was a security camera close to where the accident occurred. Detectives will be looking at that footage as part of their investigation into what happened.”
Plitt, a West Point graduate, appeared on Bravo’s Work Out series in 2008 and will appear on Friends to Lovers? next month. He also frequently created motivational and fitness videos, and appeared on more than 200 magazine covers over the course of his career.
“We couldn’t take our eyes off Greg Plitt after we cast him on ‘Work Out,'” Andy Cohen tweeted after learning of Plitt’s death. “Was as nice as he was beautiful. Seemed invincible, like Superman.”
