Grand Ole Opry Will Expand Into Times Square Location

Grand Ole Opry, the famed Nashville venue for country music, is headed to Times Square – its  first expansion in its 91 year history.

Ryman Hospitality Properties, Inc., will open the Opry City Stage in April 2017 in Manhattan’s Times Square. “There are about a 100 million consumers who love country music all across the country,” Colin Reed said, CEO of RHP Inc. “Times Square happens to be the place where between 40 and 50 million tourists go through that market. So we thought we’d start in a place as big and dominant as Times Square.”

The Opry City Stage will feature a bar, restaurant, private listening spaces and retail spaces. This is the second recent attempt to bring country music to New York City, the last being Farmborough Festival’s ill-fated move in 2015, which closed after one year.

The Bluebird Cafe, the country-heavy songwriter venue in Nashville, will also write and produce performances for the venue. Bluebird Cafe will feature the live performance of Grand Ole Opry via televisions in-bar.
