The 2023 Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, February 5 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Beyoncé led with the most nominations with nine in total while Kendrick Lamar received eight. Jay-Z earned five nominations, tying his wife, Beyoncé, for the most nominations in Grammys history at 88.

Beyoncé and the contemporary Christian music collective Maverick City Music each won the most awards with four trophies. Beyoncé’s four victories this year for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album made her the artist with the most Grammy wins in history with 32.

However, Beyoncé failed to scoop up the night’s three major awards: Song of the Year (Bonnie Raitt‘s “Just Like That”), Record of the Year (Lizzo‘s “About Damn Time”) and Album of the Year (Harry StylesHarry’s House).

Lizzo appeared visibly stunned by her win. She dedicated her award to her idols, Prince and Beyoncé, saying, “Beyoncé, in the fifth grade I skipped school to see you perform. You changed my life… So thank you so much. You clearly are the artist of our lives. I love you!”

Viola Davis also won a Grammy for best audiobook narration, granting her EGOT status (winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony). She is only the 18th person in history to have made this achievement.

Comedian Trevor Noah returned for his third year hosting the ceremony while Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, Quavo, Lizzo and many others performed during the show.
