Music’s biggest night did not disappoint. It didn’t have an Oscar-like slap, but it did feature show-stopping performances from some of the industry’s most well-known figures.
The 2022 Grammys opened with a performance from Anderson.Paak and Bruno Mars of Silk Sonic performed their song “Leave the Door Open,” which went on to win song of the year and best R&B performance (tied with Jazmine Sullivan for her song “Pick up Your Feelings”).
Olivia Rodrigo took home a collection of hardware for best new artist, best pop vocal album for Sour and best pop solo performance for her hit song “Driver’s Licence.”
Jon Batiste, who is this year’s most-nominated artist with 11 nominations, won album of the year for We Are. He took home a total of five Grammys for his work.
Several moments transcended the music being celebrated on Sunday night. The Academy paid tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim, who was one of the greatest figures in American musical theater who passed away in November and Foo Fighter’s drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died last month.
Another highlight of the night included Lady Gaga‘s beautiful and emotional rendition of “Do I Love You and “Love For Sale” as an honoring to her friend and collaborator, the great Tony Bennett.
