Grammys 2016: ‘Uptown Funk’ Is Record Of The Year [FULL LIST OF WINNERS]
The 2016 Grammy Awards celebrated the best in music Monday night with Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson taking home the coveted Record of the Year award for “Uptown Funk.”
Grammys 2016
When Mars and Ronson were called up on stage to pick up their award for “Uptown Funk,” the duo first took the opportunity to thank their fans. Producer Ronson went on thank Prince, James Brown and George Clinton, who’ve all been great influencers in funk music, for helping them create the most popular song of 2015.
Taylor Swift also had a big night, becoming the first woman to pick up her second Album of the Year Grammy. In a pointed acceptance speech that seemed to be directed at Kanye West, Swift delivered a message of personal empowerment:
As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice,” Swift said, “I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work, and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world.
In addition to beaming about her own historic victory, Swift was also overjoyed about her good pal Ed Sheeran‘s Song of the Year Grammy win for “Thinking Out Loud.” Sheeran’s hit also won for Best Pop Solo Performance. The Best New Artist gong went to Meghan Trainor this year.
Justin Bieber picked up his first Grammy with Skrillex and Diplo for “Where Are Ü Now,” and The Weeknd‘s “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Gray was the Best R&B Performance. Kendrick Lamar not only won for Best Rap Performance, but also for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album in addition to a few other awards. Best Rock Performance went to Alabama Shakes for “Don’t Wanna Fight.”
In country music, Chris Stapleton won for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Album for Traveller. Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” was dubbed the Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
Earth Wind and Fire received the Lifetime Achievement Award last night, while Lionel Richie was named the MusiCares Person of the Year.
