A slimmed down Sam Smith presented Best New Artist at the Grammys last night and took some time to talk about his recent weight loss.

Grammys 2016: Sam Smith Debuts Weight Loss

The singer has been very open about his weight loss journey and explained toreporters last night before the Grammys that he “loves food.”

“It’s very very difficult,” he told ET, regarding his weight. “I love food so much so it’s a constant battle. It’s always going to be a battle but I’m trying my best.”

The singer also talked about how he felt more hurt being called “fat” then a gay slur in the past.

“If someone called me fat, that affects me way more than someone calling me a f—-t,” he said to Australia’s 60 Minutes last April. “I think just because I’ve accepted that, if someone calls me a f—-t, it’s like, I am gay and I’m proud to be gay so there’s no issues there. If someone calls you fat, that’s something I want to change.”

Smith, 23, was also excited to present the Best New Artist award, considering he scooped up the award in 2015 along with three other wins that night.

Smith was also excited about seeing Lady Gaga’s tribute to the late David Bowie.

“I was just enamored constantly by him, and his work, and his constantly changing and how fresh he was,” Smith said. “It’s going to be emotional tonight to see that.”
