A fan of the singer Gracie Abrams created a petition to replace her tour opening act, Dora Jar.
The fan criticized Jar’s selection for Abrams’ Secret of Us tour, announced on Jan. 28. She called her songs “slow-paced” and demanded an “upbeat opening act.”
Abrams slammed the petition, which has since been deleted. The singer described it as”wildly uncool and bizarre” underneath a Stereogum post, showing her support for Jar.
“So wildly uncool and bizarre and also just does not remotely add up,” Adams wrote in the post. “I’ve only seen everyone’s total excitement, and I couldn’t be luckier or prouder to share a stage with this talented wonder. Stream everything that she’s ever made whether or not you’re coming to the show.”
The creator of the now-deleted petition wrote that fans were baffled that Abrams had picked Jar to join her for the tour, saying her music may not achieve the goal of “setting the mood and getting the crowd excited for a memorable concert experience.”
Jar responded politely, including with a sense of humor, to the petition, saying she “signed the petition.”
“Don’t worry, this doesn’t bum me out!” Jar tweeted to the fan. “I’m here to perform for all the music-loving open-hearted fans. Those who aren’t interested can go buy merch while I’m playing (but they might as well let me entertain them, though.) An overwhelming of fans have been so kind and excited.”
“Hate comes with the job; the truth is the biggest outpouring of love I’ve ever received from a fanbase still unfamiliar with me,” she concluded. “Gracie has beautiful, open-hearted fans, and I am so excited for this.”
Abrams and Jar will begin their upcoming tour in Madrid, Spain, on Feb. 8.
