Gov. Kristi Noem Mocked For Calling Kamala Harris ‘Crazy’ After Sharing Dog-Killing Story

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) has stirred up conversation with her recent remarks about the competency of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris

At the time of Noem’s comments, Harris, along with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, was scheduled to discuss her candidacy in a pre-recorded interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash, which aired on Thursday—this marked Harris’s first major interview since she became the Democratic nominee.

On Wednesday, Noem appeared on Newsmax’s Prime News, where she questioned Harris’ sanity and suggested she might seem “crazy” in the upcoming interview on CNN.

Noem also expressed disappointment over Walz’s participation and asserted that women often tackle significant challenges independently. She remarked, “We have a woman who wants to be the leader of the free world, and she can’t get through an interview without being propped up by a man? It’s insulting.”

She continued, “I hope that everybody recognizes that Tim is there to help prop her up and that if it gets awkward or she starts giggling or looking crazy, he’s going to interrupt and take over.” 

Noem’s comments have drawn widespread criticism across social media platforms, particularly on X. Users pointed out the irony in Noem’s accusations, given her own controversial past. 

While Noem has a long history of controversial remarks, what particularly struck a chord with the public was a past incident with her dog. Noem, who was previously considered as a potential vice presidential candidate, faced backlash earlier this year when she disclosed in her memoir that she had killed her 14-month-old dog and a goat to manage behavioral problems.

Despite the wave of criticism, she defended her actions on social media, stating, “Tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm.”

One user commented on Noem’s remarks about Harris: “The one who shoots her dog is talking about looking crazy? What a hypocrite.”

Earlier this year, Noem was banned from all the Native American lands in her state due to comments that offended tribal leaders.
