Following the news that various politicians had been duped into fake interviews with British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, the first show of his satirical seven-episode Showtime series Who Is America? was released on Sunday.
In the first episode, Baron Cohen acted as an Israeli anti-terror expert, presenting two U.S. congressmen with a fictitious program for children as young as three-years-old to learn how to operate “gunimals” – guns wreathed with stuffed animals.

There was also a falsified instructional video of congressman demonstrating how to use the “gunimals,” which would ostensibly help kids survive school shootings.
“In America, there’s this big problem of shootings in schools,” Baron Cohen said. “The NRA wants to arm the teachers. This is crazy! You should be arming the children.”

He added, “In less than a month, a first-grader can become a first grenade-er.”
Republican congressmen Dana Rohrabacher of California, Joe Wilson of South Carolina and former Senate Republican leader Trent Lott, now a lobbyist at a Washington law firm, are depicted fervently supporting the proposal. Former conservative congressman Joe Walsh also encouraged the phony program.
Walsh later said in a tweet that he does not support the “kinderguardian” idea.
Both Showtime and Baron Cohen have declined to comment on the series. Reportedly, none of the people in the show were able to see the final cuts before it premiered on Sunday night.
It’s been over a decade since Baron Cohen has made a TV project or film. His 2006 fake documentary Borat followed his creation of Ali G., his character as a white British rapper.
