Google Glass, Google’s breakthrough in eyewear technology, will be made available by the company to a select few who apply to test the product – and want to shell out $1500 to do so.
Last year, Google made their Google Glass product available through their explorer program, which was aimed almost entirely at tech developers. Now, they're broadening their scope of testers to anyone who can impress the company with their “bold, creative” ideas for the use of Google Glass. Eight thousand individuals who earn the highest scores will get an invitation, according to the contest rules.
Applications to try out Google Glass must be 50 words or less and submitted through either Google+ or Twitter. Along with the short message, applicants can also include up to five photos and a 15-second video. Whatever you do, you must append the hashtag #ifihadglass. All entries must be submitted by 2:59 a.m. Eastern on Feb. 28, and all contestants must be 18 years or older. Those selected will be asked to attend a “pick-up experience” in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles
Google has recently released a video showing the capabilities of their hi-tech glasses. Throughout the video, wearers of Google Glass take videos riding on roller coasters, get directions through its navigation system driving through city streets, and of course, using Google search.
How does it work? Google’s video, shown directly through the eyes of Glass wearers, displays the feed in the top right corner. Text messages, incoming video, and the results of Google search appear without obstructing the vision of the wearer. The glasses seem to activate with a command that starts with “Ok Glass!” Touching the glass with your finger or moving your head also activates the glass, according to The New York Times.
