Christian Bale won a Golden Globe on Sunday night for his lead role as Vice President Dick Cheney in the dark comedy Vice, and delivered a memorable acceptance speech.
Bale thanked many people including writer-director Adam McKay, who previously made The Big Short, for casting him in the part of the notorious Cheney in the new biopic.
“He said, ‘I’ve got to find someone who can be absolutely charisma-free and rivaled by everybody … thank you for all the competition. I will be cornering the market on charisma-free a—holes,” said the 44-year-old British actor, who previously won a Golden Globe in 2011 for his supporting role in the film The Fighter.
Bale then called out a specific politician: the Republican Senate Majority Leader.
“What do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That could be good couldn’t it?” Bale said of the veteran Kentucky lawmaker as McKay whooped from his table.
Bale also profusely and adorably thanked his wife, model Sibi Blazic, the cast and crew of Vice including Amy Adams, Sam Rockwell and Steve Carell as well as an unexpected famous person: the devil.
“I’d like to thank Satan, for giving me inspiration on how to play this role,” said Bale.
