Golden Globes 2018 Nominations Announced: ‘The Shape Of Water,’ ‘Big Little Lies’ Lead [FULL LIST]

Entertainment awards season is right around the corner, and now those prize ceremonies seem closer than ever.

Golden Globes 2018 Nominees List

Nominations for the 2018 Golden Globes were announced Monday morning. Handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the awards honor acting in film and television in 25 categories: 14 for movies and 11 for TV.

Leading the pack among films is Guillermo del Toro’s fantastical drama The Shape of Water, which scored seven nominations including Best Motion Picture (Drama), best director and best actress.

Steve Spielberg’s historical drama The Post and Martin McDonagh‘s crime film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri followed with six nods each, including Best Motion Picture (Drama).

The highly-praised films Lady Bird — first time director Greta Gerwig’s coming-of-age flick — and Call Me By Your Name, a gay romantic drama from Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, each earned three nominations including Best Picture, although the former was honored as a comedy and the latter was labeled as a drama. I, Tonya — a biographical dark comedy about American figure skater Tonya Harding’s rise and fall at the 1994 Winter Olympics — got three nominations, including Best Picture (Comedy).

Jordan Peele’s horror film Get Out — which earned rave reviews after its release in February — only scored two nominations: Best Picture (Comedy) and Best Lead Actor for Daniel Kaluuya.

In television, HBO’s dramatic miniseries Big Little Lies — which swept at the Emmys in September — dominated the field with six nominations, four of which went to the show’s main actresses Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley. FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan followed with four nods, and This Is Us, Fargo, and The Handmaid’s Tale tied for third place with three nominations each. Game of Thrones only got one nod.

Seth Meyers is set to host the 75th Golden Globes, which will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s Grand Ballroom on Jan. 7, 2018 and will air on NBC. This is the second year in a row an NBC comedian hosts the show. The Late Night host follows fellow Saturday Night Live alum and Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, who hosted last year’s Golden Globes. Dwayne Johnson’s daughter Simone Garcia Johnson is set to serve as Golden Globes ambassador.

Among this year’s snubs is The Big Sick, Michael Showalter’s romantic comedy that was co-written by the entirely-ignored film’s lead actor Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily Gordon. Also ignored were the summer blockbuster Wonder Woman, and the Jake Gyllenhaal-led drama Stronger.

In television, HBO’s hit comedy Veep — which has won big at awards shows in the last few years — was shut out completely.
