Claire Foy, who plays a young Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown, thanked the Queen herself in her acceptance speech.
This was Foy’s first nomination at the Golden Globes, and also her first win. “When you play a real-life person it’s tricky, and you rely very much on the people around you,” she said, first thanking her colleagues and producers.
“But I really really really wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for some extraordinary women… One of them is Queen Elizabeth II,” she said to laughs and applause from the audience. “She has been at the center of the world for the past 63 years and I think the world could do with a few more women at the center of it if you ask me.”
Foy rounded off her speech with, “And finally, another extraordinary woman in the making, my girl. I love you, you’re the future, and oh you’re just brilliant, thank you.” Her daughter was born in 2015 with her husband Stephen Campbell Moore.
The Crown also won the Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Drama.
