Acclaimed actress Glenn Close displayed her good sense of humor when she shared a series of selfies on Instagram that showed her face bruised from a recent medical procedure.
In the candid close-up shots, Close playfully poses for the camera with tousled hair and a cozy cardigan. Alongside the images, she wrote, “I think this is going to be a particularly GOOD day,” in anticipation of her 77th birthday.
She acknowledged the bruises and explained that she had undergone a minor procedure to address a small break in her nose, but emphasized that she still felt as beautiful as ever.
While Close’s Instagram account typically features scenic landscapes and occasional political posts, the actress recently shared a video of herself making goofy faces.
“It’s morning in a new place away from home. I’m wishing I didn’t have to wash and brush my hair. #bedhead,” she wrote in the caption.
Her new playful approach to social media resonates with her fans.
Close did not provide specific details about the incident that led to her nose break, but she has actively shared photos and videos of nature on her Instagram account in recent weeks. Three weeks ago she posted a video in which she expressed her thoughts on how global events affect humanity and highlighted the constant exposure to images of war, displacement, starvation and other forms of suffering. She emphasized the importance of not becoming desensitized or indifferent.
Throughout her career, Close has been recognized as an Oscars darling. Her first nomination came in 1983 for Best Supporting Actress in The World According to Garp, which marked one of her early standout roles. She continued to receive nominations in subsequent years for her performances in movies such as The Big Chill (1984) and The Natural (1985). However, many of her fans believe that her most deserved role for Oscar recognition came in 1987 when she portrayed the troubled character Alex Forrest in the acclaimed thriller Fatal Attraction. Despite the critical acclaim and cultural significance of the role, Close did not win the Best Actress Oscar that year.
Undeterred by the lack of recognition, Close has remained focused on her craft and the importance of her work as an actor. She continued to receive nominations for her performances in films such as Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Albert Nobbs (2011), The Wife (2018) and Hillbilly Elegy (2020), bringing her total nominations to eight.
