Glenn Close Reveals How Her Viral Oscars Moment Happened
When the Oscars aired on Sunday night, no one would have expected that Glenn Close would dance to the 1988 song “Da Butt” – and then go viral.
In a segment where presenter Lil Rel Howery and DJ Questlove tested the audience’s music and Oscars’ history, Close shocked everyone with her knowledge of the song before proceeding to show some of her moves.
On Monday, the eight-time nominee reflected on her night out at the Oscars. “We had the MOST FUN at our table at the Oscars last night,” she wrote. “Chris Terrio, one of my best friends, who won an Oscar for the screenplay of ARGO, was my gallant escort. Daniel Kaluuya and Darrell Britt-Gibson were wonderful table mates.”

She continued, “I knew that Lil Rey was goin going to quiz me about Da Butt and all three guys helped me run through what I was going to do. Darrell insisted that I mentioned the Backyard Band, on top of E.U., Suga Bear and the whole DMV. I had googled ‘Da Butt’ and watched Spike’s music video so when Lil Rel asked if I could do the dance… you can actually see me think of the video. That part was completely spontaneous. Daniel, Darrell and Chris egged me on!!! It was ALL their fault.”
Close then went on to congratulate Kaluuya on his Best Supporting Actor win. “You are completely brilliant. I now consider both Daniel and Darrell to be friends-for-life!”
