In a ceremony with no host or live-musical performances, Glenn Close gave one of the most memorable moments of the night.
Toward the end of the ceremony, presenter Lil Rey Howery decided to play a trivia game with the star-studded audience. The rules of the game were that Howery had to pick a celebrity from the audience, and Questlove, the ceremony’s DJ, would play a throwback song, and the star would need to determine if the song was nominated for an Oscar.
The 74-year-old actor was given the 1988 song “Da Butt,” in which she was surprisingly familiar with. Close knew that the track was written for Spike Lee’s film School Daze by the band EU. She also confirmed that the song did not receive an Oscar nomination at the time. The eight-time Oscar nominee then proceeded to show off the song’s dance by shaking her butt to the crowd.
Close was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Hillbilly Elegy, but she lost to Minari’s Yuh-Jung Youn.
