Giuliana Rancic Defends Her Weight, Says Cancer Medication Keeps Her From Gaining Weight

Giuliana Rancic admits she is too thin in a recent interview, but revealed that her inability to gain weight is actually a result of medication.

Giuliana Rancic Says She Wishes She Could Gain Weight

Rancic, host of E! News and a regular on E!’s Fashion Police, defended her slim physique after rumors that she was suffering from an eating disorder gained steam. Rancic lives in front of the camera and has always been thin, but some fans thought she looked exceptionally frail when she hosted E!’s red carpet at the Golden Globes on Jan. 11. After months of fans speculating that Rancic was unhealthy – whether due to an eating disorder or a return of cancer (Rancic famously battled breast cancer in the public eye in 2011).

“Some people were saying, ‘The cancer is probably back.’ And they were accusing me of every eating disorder. I thought to myself, ‘God, if someone really thought I had an eating disorder, what a horrible way to approach it,’” Rancic said, calling out the media.

In an interview with People, Rancic, 40, explained that she has, indeed, struggled with her weight recently, but not due to any illness. Rancic explained that the cancer-suppressing medication she was prescribed after her cancer has made it difficult to gain weight.

“I started noticing that I was eating a lot, but not gaining weight at all. I was concerned,” Rancic revealed.

Rancic added that she went straight to her oncologist, who confirmed the drug could be disrupting her metabolism. “I’m sorry that some people think I’m disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there’s nothing I can do. I’m lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine,” Rancic added.

The TV personality and mother of one said she hoped her interview might end some of the speculation on her weight, especially the harsh criticism that has affected her self-esteem: “I look in the mirror and it’s hard for me. I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can’t.”

Rancic even admitted that her weight has limited her job opportunities. She claimed that a publication had wanted to feature her, but then decided not to, telling her she was “too skinny.”

“That was really hurtful. I thought, ‘Wow, I’m on cancer medication. I’m doing the best that I can,’” Rancic said.
