Gisele Bundchen Clarifies Comments: Patriots Did Not “Let” Eagles Win

Former Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen is clarifying a statement she made to her children following the New England Patriots loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

GISELE BUNDCHEN CLARIFIES PATRIOTS COMMENTS

USA Today reported that the wife of quarterback Tom Brady explained to their children, Vivian and Benjamin, that the Eagles “haven’t won in a million years.” In an effort to explain the loss to her kids, Bundchen told them, “Just this time. Daddy won five times. They never won before,” she said. “Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes.”

The model took to Twitter to clarify that she didn’t literally mean that the Patriots “let” the Eagles win the big game. “Just to be clear,” she began. “No one ‘let’ anyone win. People win because of their own merit. Tired of people twisting my words to create drama that doesn’t exist.”

Her children weren’t the only people that Bundchen had to console after the loss. She posted a photo to her Instagram account of her hugging Brady, who looked on the verge of tears. In her caption, she congratulated the Eagles on their historic win and told her husband that she is proud of him.

“Congratulations Eagles for winning the Super bowl, what a game that was!” she wrote. “Congratulations Patriots for giving your best and to my love, we are incredibly proud of you because we are able to see every day all the commitment, sacrifice and hard work that you have devoted to become the best in what you do. We love you! ❤️.”

Bundchen also acted unlike her husband, in that she congratulated every Eagles player she came across, including defensemen Derek Barnett and Fletcher Cox, as she left the stadium. Brady, on the other hand, refused to even shake the hand of his competitor and Eagles quarterback Nick Foles after the game. Instead, he retreated into the Patriots locker room. He did the same in his losses to the New York Giants in 2007 and 2011.

“No one is going to feel sorry for us,” Brady told reporters after the game. “We’ll evaluate like we always do. I’m sure everyone is pretty tired after a long year. That’s football.”
