Girls brought the drama this week, with Hannah kicking Caroline out, angering Adam, and Marnie hooking up with Ray in the new episode “Only Child.”

Hannah (Lena Dunham) continued to grieve the loss of her e-book contract during her editor David’s funeral, where she came face to face with David’s widow, Annalise (Jennifer Westfeldt). Hannah bothers Annalise into giving her the name of another editor she could talk to in the hopes of reviving her book, and she leaves the funeral with a new phone number in her pocket and hatred from Annalise.

Hannah calls the new publisher and, while she’s on this winning streak, decides to sit Adam (Adam Driver) and Caroline (Gaby Hoffmann) down and solve their problems. Adam accuses Caroline of being evil, ruining everything and having zero life goals. Hannah points out that the same could be said about Adam, and Caroline takes the opportunity to pounce on Adam. She says Adam has always had sexual feelings towards her. Eventually, Hannah kicks Caroline out after she tries to pit Adam and Hannah against each other. Surprisingly, Adam is furious. Despite his protests, he feels that he was supposed to take care of her.

Hannah has more luck at her meeting with the new publisher, who tells her she likes her style and would be interested in publishing her book. Unfortunately, Mill Street has the rights to Hannah’s manuscript for the next three years since she already got paid for it.

In other news, Marnie (Allison Williams) feels rejected by Hannah, and all of her other friends. She buys a kitten, but even that fails to cheer her up, so she heads down into Brooklyn to talk to Ray (Alex Karpovsky). Marnie asks Ray what’s wrong with her, and she doesn’t like what she hears. Ray isn’t shy in informing her that she is spoiled, judgmental and uses people. Marnie cries and the two have sex. When she leaves, Marnie and Ray agree to keep their indiscretion a secret.

Finally, Jessa (Jemima Kirke) takes a job at a maternity store and is still bothered by the fact that her friend faked her death rather than break up with her. Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) doesn’t really have time to listen to her complain. Her new experimental lifestyle has affected her GPA and she needs to study if she still wants to be on track with her 15-year plan.

Girls airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
