Ghislaine Maxwell, ex-girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, has been charged with sex trafficking on top of her growing list of charges from her arrest last summer. Another alleged victim also came forward on Monday.
The new charges were contained in a rewritten indictment by a Manhattan grand jury that alleged a sex trafficking conspiracy between Epstein and Maxwell from 1994-2004.
Maxwell was arrested in July on charges from New York prosecutors for her role in recruiting, grooming and sexually abusing underage girls in an established criminal enterprise. She has remained in federal prison without bail since then. She has been rejected being offered bail from a judge three times.
The fourth girl added to the indictment, alleged that she was sexually abused by Epstein multiple times at his Palm Beach, Florida residence between 2001-2004. She was 14-years-old when the alleged abuse began.
The charges also alleged that Maxwell groomed the fourth girl in multiple ways in her engagement in sexual acts with Epstein. She stated that Maxwell gave her lingerie, cash and encouraged the her to recruit other young girls for Epstein.
Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges against her and Epstein. Earlier this year, Maxwell’s lawyers challenged the charges against her. They stated that her indictment violated an old agreement made years ago with federal prosecutors to not arrest Epstein or any of his associates.
In a letter to a judge Monday, prosecutors believed that the rewritten indictment may require her defense lawyers to add supplemental material to their arguments to try to dismiss the case. The government also agreed to not bring another rewritten indictment against Maxwell if her lawyers do not request to postpone her trial, scheduled for July 12.
