Police are searching for a missing Georgia couple, Elrey ‘Bud’ Runion and his wife, June Runion, who went missing Thursday after going to meet a man they met on Craigslist.
Runion, 69, and his wife, 66, placed an ad on Craigslist searching for a 1966 Mustang, his dream car. On Thursday, Runion and his wife left their Atlanta home to travel to McRae, a town in South Georgia, to meet a seller who responded to the ad. They have not been heard from since, and their daughters reported them missing the next day. Though the couple’s three daughters say that their parents left the house with their cellphones and chargers, no one has heard from them since Thursday.
The Telfair County Sheriff’s Department, Cobb County police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are all investigating the disappearance, and authorities are currently focusing on Ronnie ‘Jay’ Adrian Towns, the man they believe responded to the ad and invited the couple down to McRae. Police have confirmed that phone records show that Towns was in contact with Runion in Telfair County, but couldn’t confirm whether they had met in person.
“We were interested in who last had phone contact with the Runions, and this individual did. We interviewed Mr. Towns early on in the investigation and the info he provided did not corroborate with our investigation,” said Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson on Sunday.
Towns turned himself in on Monday and is currently in police custody. The couple is still missing.
Seibert speculated, “If struggle without context is baffling, heaven without struggle isn’t very interesting.”
The shooter was identified to be John R. Lyons, 24, of Westchester, Illinois.
