George R. R. Martin released a new chapter from his forthcoming installment in The Song of Ice and Fire series, Winds of Winter.
Martin took to his blog earlier this week to announce that a sample from High Stakes, the latest installment of the Wild Cards series, was up on his website. And, knowing that giving a new sample for Wild Cards fans without providing any new material for Song of Ice and Fire fans wasn’t an option, Martin gave them a new chapter to hold them over until Winds of Winter‘s release.
“Because I know how much b–ching I’d get if I offered a new sample from Wild Cards without also doing one from A SONG OF ICE & FIRE… we’ve also changed the WINDS OF WINTER sample on my website, replacing the Alayne chapter that’s been there for the past year with one featuring Arianne Martell,” Martin wrote.
Martin went on to reveal what the chapter in question deals with. “You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in WINDS OF WINTER? Quite a lot, actually,” he wrote. “The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait.”
Martin then clarified that the release of a new chapter did not in any way indicate that the Winds of Winter is done or that it has a release date.
“Just to spike any bulls–t rumors, changing the sample chapter does NOT mean I am done,” he wrote. “See the icon up above? Monkey is still on my back… but he’s growing, he is, and one day…”
Game of Thrones, the HBO series based on Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series, is currently in its sixth season. It airs Sundays at 9/8c.
